The Tate Cancer Center at University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) has once again earned reaccreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC) as an academic comprehensive cancer program, reaffirming its dedication to high-quality, patient centered care. This designation is held by only 13% of cancer programs nationwide. 

Five distinguished community leaders joined the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) and the BWMC Foundation Board of Directors, effective July 1. A member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), UM BWMC continues to transform to meet the changing health care needs of the community. The new board members will support initiatives that expand access to high-quality, equitable care throughout Anne Arundel County, the region and the state of Maryland.

This week, the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) celebrates two important milestones: 60 years of caring for Anne Arundel County and 25 years as a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). 

Two population health initiatives at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) have been recognized by the Maryland Patient Safety Center with Circle of Honor awards at the 2025 Minogue Award Ceremony.

The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation (CRSF) and University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC) – a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) – held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently to unveil their new mobile STEM Center at Glen Burnie Park Elementary School.

Due to the inclement weather, certain outpatient and primary care practices will have a delayed opening while some will remain closed on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center’s hospital is fully open – including its Emergency Department and Labor and Delivery unit – with operations continuing per normal and unaffected by the storm. We remain open and ready to care for our community.

The University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), has aligned its new heart and lung care practices on the third floor of the hospital’s Outpatient Care Center. The move physically brings together the two closely related care practices to enhance existing collaboration and offer more comprehensive cardiopulmonary care to patients.

More than 400 community members across Anne Arundel County and the surrounding areas connected with neighbors and local health services during the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center's (UM BWMC's) Fall Community Wellness Day at the Severn Center earlier this month.
